EYE CONDITIONS

A-Frame Deformity

A-frame deformity correction is a popular request at FaceRestoration in both our Harley Street and Cambridge locations. The name comes from the A-shaped appearance of the upper eyelid framing the eye, and hollowing of the eyelid and eye socket. This can make you look much older than you are.

We recognise that this appearance can be an unwanted change and are able to provide you with gentle rejuvenation and restoration of the eyelid area, improving the tired, ‘skeletalised’ appearance.

ABOUT THIS CONDITION

INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SYMPTOMS

As we age, our skin loses collagen, hydration, elasticity and support, this deflation can also occur in the subcutaneous tissue and fat of the eyelid, as well as due to resorption of the bone of the eye socket. This makes the rim of the eye socket more visible. The resulting deep sulcus of the upper eyelid and hollow appearance above the eye can give a more aged, ‘skeletalised’ look.

The A-frame deformity can also be associated with a droopy eyelid or Ptosis where the upper lash line lies low over the clear window of the eye, the cornea. This droop can be more noticeable with age and also with the long-term use of contact lenses. It can also be caused by over-zealous blepharoplasty (surgery to the upper eyelid or lower eye lid bags) if fat has been removed, and by the use of certain eye drops which are used for the treatment of glaucoma. In 2009, our Consultant surgeons at FaceRestoration were the first to identify and later publish this in finding in patients, following the use of the glaucoma drop Bimatoprost.
