EYE CONDITIONS

Dark under eye circles & Tear trough

Many patients notice that they look tired as they age. No matter how much rest they take, they seem to have dark circles under their eyes. In fact, this is due to the loss of volume in and around the tear troughs. Another common problem is “bags” under the eyes.

At Face Restoration, we can talk you through all of the available treatments – both surgical and non-surgical – for a naturally rejuvenated appearance.

ABOUT THIS CONDITION

INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SYMPTOMS

The effects of ageing are normally first seen in the eye area. This is because the skin is thinner than in other areas of the face. Tear troughs are located between your cheek and lower eyelid. This under-eye area loses volume as we age, resulting in dark circles, hollows, and bags.

The most common thing that patients notice is that they look tired, have dark circles or slight bags under the eyes.

What causes dark circles?

There are a few reasons that dark circles can appear. The most common is the natural ageing process. As we age, skin becomes thinner and less voluminous. This causes depressions that pick up less light and therefore look darker.

What causes bags under the eyes?

Under-eye bags are caused by a combination of factors. As we age, skin loses elasticity, leading to excess skin. At the same time, the tear trough space can fill with redundant muscle and fatty tissue. Whatever the cause, eye bags are almost always treatable. The Mid-Face Another cause of under-eye ageing is the gradual dropping of the mid-face area. Usually, the eye trough shares the same contour as the cheeks in our youth without a visible distinction between the two areas. As the cheeks descend due to natural ageing, the difference between the two areas becomes more apparent. Treatment is aimed at harmonising the two areas for a naturally rejuvenated appearance.

When should I consider treatment?

The best time to get treatment is entirely your personal preference. Some patients with congenital tear trough anomalies are treated as young as their twenties. Most patients opt for treatment when their dark circles or eye bags make them feel self-conscious or unhappy with their appearance. Our goal is to restore and rejuvenate with care and consideration.
