Socket revision
If you are having problems such as loose fitting or discomfort from your prosthetic eye, it might be time to think about socket revision surgery. The ocular prosthesis can cause tissue to stretch and scar over time. In turn, this may make the ocular prosthesis unstable, making it difficult to insert or easy to fall out. The goal of eye socket surgery is to make a socket that will hold an ocular prosthesis comfortably.
At Face Restoration, we understand the need for comfortable and reliably fitted prostheses for you comfort, confidence, and peace of mind.

FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, & BENEFITS FOR OUR PATIENTS
Consultants Dr Rachna Murthy, and Dr Jonathan Roos, are leading ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons who aim to see you as soon as possible to get treatment underway when it is needed most.
During surgery, we aim to create a socket that can accommodate an ocular prosthesis comfortably. Your prosthesis will hopefully become more stable and move more freely with surgery.
What treatment can I expect?
Your treatment will depend on a number of factors that we will discuss as part of your assessment and consultation. Some of the available treatments include:
- Lateral tarsal strip
- Mucous membrane graft
- Fornix deepening sutures
- Secondary orbital implants, orbital implant exchange and dermis fat grafting
If I don't have surgery, what will happen?
A shrinking socket may make it difficult to retain a prosthesis, eventually making it impossible to use a prosthesis. The prosthesis may keep falling out or fall out more easily if it is unstable.
Is there an alternative to surgery?
Ocularists can reshape ocular prosthesis so that they fit more comfortably in their sockets in certain circumstances. Sometimes, simply polishing an eye socket prosthesis can improve symptoms.
