SKIN & FACIAL NON SURGICAL TREATMENT

Filler reversal & hyaluronidase

Our surgeons at Face Restoration teach health care professionals the safe application of dermal filler and how to prevent and manage complications and dermal filler reversal – Hyaluronidase.

We understand how distressing it can be when cosmetic treatment does not go to plan. Unfortunately, dermal fillers are unregulated, meaning treatment can be done by non-medical practitioners. Filler reversal & Hyaluronidase can reverse the unwanted effects before retreating if you wish.

DETAILS ABOUT THE TREATMENT

WHICH FILLERS CAN BE REVERSED?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

HOW SOON AFTER DISSOLVING CAN I HAVE FURTHER FILLER TREATMENT?

Usually further filler in the same location is delayed for two weeks after hyaluronidase, so that further enzymatic degradation to the new filler does not occur.

DO I NEED TO DISSOLVE MY TEAR TROUGH FILLER BEFORE LOWER EYELID SURGERY?

No. Our Consultants assess your individual situation and will advise you accordingly.

WILL HYALURONIDASE DAMAGE MY NATURAL STRUCTURES?

Hyaluronidase can result in more crepey skin, but used in small doses and targeted to areas for corrective treatment, this is minimised.

WHY FACE RESTORATION?

FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, & BENEFITS FOR OUR PATIENTS

Consultants Dr Rachna Murthy, and Dr Jonathan Roos, both teach other medical professionals how to safely manage complications of dermal fillers, and the use of hyaluronidase for patients.

As oculoplastic consultants, one of the most common reasons for filler reversal for suboptimal treatment results in the eye area. We understand the delicate and intricate anatomy around the eye, and aim to correct treatment as soon as possible.

What is hyaluronidase?

Both hyaluronic acid and hyaluronidase of naturally occuring substances in the body. The hyaluronic acid used in dermal fillers is specially designed so that our natural enzymes do not break it down easily; This means that it requires another dissolving enzyme in the case of complications – synthetic hyaluronidase.

Why do patients request dermal filler reversal?

Like all treatments, dermal fillers come with risks of side effects, especially if practitioners are not trained in their usage correctly. Below are the most common – and treatable – reasons for having filler reversal:

  • Lumpy filler
  • Over filled areas
  • Asymmetrical fillers
  • Incorrectly placed filler
  • Tyndall’s effect
  • Infection or granuloma
  • Arterial occlusion

Is there a risk of adverse effects from hyaluronidase?

It is important to know that there are various hyaluronidase adverse effects to be aware of. Swelling and bruising are the most prevalent adverse effects. This normally subsides within a few days of the medication. While injection site allergies are extremely rare, they can be severe and pose the danger of anaphylaxis. This is particularly common in those who are allergic to bee stings.
