EYE SURGICAL TREATMENT

Incision & curettage of chalazion

If you have a small, uncomfortable lump on the edge of your eyelid, it may be a stye or chalazion. Oily tears are naturally produced by meibomian glands, which are located under our eyelids. When these glands are blocked, they may form a chalazion or stye (i.e. hordeolum).

At FaceRestoration, we understand the discomfort and potential embarrassment caused by a chalazion or stye and aim to relieve your symptoms as soon as possible. We offer a wide range of treatments; including incision and curettage of chalazion. Our award-winning ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeons will safely take care of everything from consultation and diagnosis to treatment and post-operative care.

WHY FACE RESTORATION?

FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, & BENEFITS FOR OUR PATIENTS

At Face Restoration, you can expect to see two ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeons who will consult you throughout your time under our care. Having two consultants means an in-built second opinion when diagnosing and planning treatments, as well as increased capacity during your post-operative care.

You will be treated by two specialists who will provide a “built-in second opinion” in order to leave no stone uncovered. As part of your post-operative management, you’ll have access to both surgeons through WhatsApp for questions and post-operative guidance.

What is the surgical procedure for removing a chalazion?

Chalazion surgery is performed at our clinic and takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes. A local anaesthetic is injected into the eyelid for comfort and a small incision is made in the Chalazion. Once the fluid has been drained, we remove any debris contained within the nodule. No stitches are usually required.

Is chalazion surgery uncomfortable?

The local anaesthetic stings at first, but after that, all you will feel is slight stretch and pressure, not pain. During the first 24 hours following surgery, there may be a dull ache that is easily remedied with over-the-counter medication like paracetamol.

What is the recovery time from chalazion surgery?

Chalazion and stye surgery recoveries differ from patient to patient as well as the size, number, and location of the chalazia that need to be removed. Redness and swelling will be most noticeable in the first 3-4 days and then gradually subside over a few weeks.
