Smoker’s lines & Nose to Mouth lines
Smokers lines, lip lines, lipstick lines or barcode lines describe the wrinkles around the mouth. The nasolabial folds are the lines running from the nose to mouth. Both are very common presentations to FaceRestoration in our Harley Street and Cambridge locations.
ABOUT THIS CONDITION
INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SYMPTOMS
Contrary to what the name suggests, you do not have to be a smoker to have smoker’s lines. These tiny vertical wrinkles run from the top of the upper lip upwards to the nose, or from the bottom lip border down.
They are notoriously difficult to conceal, and are often called lipstick lines due to the way lipstick can ‘bleed’ and settle in the wrinkle.
Nose to Lip Lines
Naso-labial folds or nose to lip lines may form from your early 30s. By your mid 40s, facial fat starts to lose volume and drifts downward with gravity. Skin that was smooth and tight becomes loose and sags.
As the natural ageing process continues the facial bones also begin to resorb. As the bones give way, the muscles follow, losing their volume, strength and elasticity. The cheeks appear flatter and deep grooves may start to form where there were initially none.
Sun exposure, smoking and rapid weight loss of frequent fluctuations in weight may further play a role in skin ageing.
