FACIAL SURGICAL TREATMENT

Surgical management of filler complication

Filler related complications including vascular occlusion and vision loss are not uncommon in an unregulated market in the UK where filler treatments are not classified as medical treatments and non-healthcare professionals can purchase and inject filler.

We understand how distressing it can be when cosmetic treatment does not go to plan. Unfortunately, dermal fillers are unregulated, meaning treatment can be done by non-medical practitioners. At FaceResoration, we aim to use non-surgical methods to reverse the effects dermal fillers. However, when appropriate we can surgically reverse the unwanted effects before retreating if you wish.

WHY FACE RESTORATION?

FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, & BENEFITS FOR OUR PATIENTS

Consultants Dr Rachna Murthy, and Dr Jonathan Roos, both teach other medical professionals how to safely manage complications of dermal fillers, and the use of hyaluronidase for patients.

As oculoplastic consultants, one of the most common reasons for filler reversal is suboptimal treatment results in the eye area. We understand the delicate and intricate anatomy around the eye, and aim to correct treatment as soon as possible.

Why do patients require dermal filler reversal?

Like all treatments, dermal fillers come with risks of side effects, especially if practitioners are not trained in their usage correctly. Below are the most common – and treatable – reasons for having filler reversal:

  • Lumpy filler
  • Over filled areas
  • Asymmetrical fillers
  • Incorrectly placed filler
  • Tyndall’s effect
  • Infection or granuloma
  • Arterial occlusion

What are the benefits of surgical intervention?

Surgery may help restore and recover facial tissues and can prevent future and continuing responses, lowering pain, inflammation, and discomfort. When the facial function is affected – such as limited mouth opening or decreased eye closure – surgical treatment helps in restoring normal function.

Will my symptoms be relieved in a single visit?

This will depend on your individual circumstances. During your consultation we will discuss your bespoke treatment plan. Where possible we aim to relieve you of your symptoms in a single treatment, but occasionally phased treatment is necessary.
